Personal Data may be freely provided by the User, or, in case of Usage Data, collected automatically when using this Application.

Unless specified otherwise, all Data requested by this Application is mandatory and failure to provide this Data may make it impossible for this Application to provide its services. In cases where this Application specifically states that some Data is not mandatory, Users are free not to communicate this Data without consequences to the availability or the functioning of the Service.

Users who are uncertain about which Personal Data is mandatory are welcome to contact the Owner.

Any use of Trackers by this Application or by the owners of third-party services used by this Application serves the purpose of providing the Service required by the User, in addition to any other purposes described in the present document.

Users are responsible for any third-party Personal Data obtained, published or shared through this Application — including names, contact details and amounts of people they add to a split bill or shared expense.

Methods of processing

The Owner takes appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, or unauthorized destruction of the Data.

The Data processing is carried out using computers and/or IT enabled tools, following organizational procedures and modes strictly related to the purposes indicated. In addition to the Owner, in some cases, the Data may be accessible to certain types of persons in charge, involved with the operation of this Application (administration, sales, marketing, legal, system administration) or external parties (such as third-party technical service providers, mail carriers, hosting providers, IT companies, communications agencies, AI/OCR providers) appointed, if necessary, as Data Processors by the Owner. The updated list of these parties may be requested from the Owner at any time.

Place

The Data is processed at the Owner's operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located.

Depending on the User's location, data transfers may involve transferring the User's Data to a country other than their own. To find out more about the place of processing of such transferred Data, Users can check the section containing details about the processing of Personal Data.

Retention time

Unless specified otherwise in this document, Personal Data shall be processed and stored for as long as required by the purpose they have been collected for and may be retained for longer due to applicable legal obligation or based on the Users' consent.

The purposes of processing

The Data concerning the User is collected to allow the Owner to provide its Service, comply with its legal obligations, respond to enforcement requests, protect its rights and interests (or those of its Users or third parties), detect any malicious or fraudulent activity, as well as the following: Device permissions for Personal Data access, Image recognition and content detection, Beta Testing, Analytics, Managing contacts and sending messages, Content performance and features testing (A/B testing), Infrastructure monitoring, Platform services and hosting, Handling payments, Hosting and backend infrastructure, Social features, and Interaction with external social networks and platforms.

Device permissions for Personal Data access

Depending on the User's specific device, this Application may request certain permissions that allow it to access the User's device Data as described below.

By default, these permissions must be granted by the User before the respective information can be accessed. Once the permission has been given, it can be revoked by the User at any time. In order to revoke these permissions, Users may refer to the device settings or contact the Owner for support at the contact details provided in the present document. The exact procedure for controlling app permissions may be dependent on the User's device and software.

Please note that the revoking of such permissions might impact the proper functioning of this Application.

If User grants any of the permissions listed below, the respective Personal Data may be processed (i.e. accessed, modified or removed) by this Application.

Camera permission

Used for accessing the camera to capture images of cash, receipts, bills, and personal moments that the User wishes to attach to financial entries. Captured images may be processed by automated image-recognition systems to detect monetary amounts, dates and merchant information so that the User can add them to their history with one tap.

Photo Library permission

Allows access to the User's Photo Library so that existing photos can be selected and attached to financial entries, memories or split-bill records.

Biometric Data access permission

Used for accessing the User's biometric authentication systems, such as Face ID or Touch ID, to lock and unlock the Application or sensitive data.

Notification permission

Used to send the User reminders about subscriptions, loan due dates, savings goals, split-bill settlements and recap-style memories.

Calendar permission (optional)

Used only if the User explicitly chooses to sync MoneyMemories events (e.g. subscription renewals, loan payments) to their device calendar.

Analytics

The services contained in this section enable the Owner to monitor and analyze app traffic and can be used to keep track of User behavior.

Google Analytics for Firebase (Google Ireland Limited)
Google Analytics for Firebase or Firebase Analytics is an analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited. Firebase Analytics may share Data with other tools provided by Firebase, such as Crash Reporting, Authentication, Remote Config or Notifications.
This Application uses identifiers for mobile devices and technologies similar to cookies to run the Firebase Analytics service.
Users may opt out of certain Firebase features through applicable device settings.

Mixpanel is an analytics service provided by Mixpanel, Inc.

Beta Testing

This type of service makes it possible to manage User access to this Application, or parts of it, for the purpose of testing a certain feature or the entire Application. The service provider may automatically collect data related to crashes and statistics related to the User's use of this Application in a personally identifiable form.

TestFlight is a beta testing service provided by Apple Inc.

Content performance and features testing (A/B testing)

The services contained in this section allow the Owner to track and analyze the User response concerning traffic or behavior regarding changes to the structure, text or any other component of this Application.

Firebase Remote Config (Google Ireland Limited)
Firebase Remote Config is an A/B testing and configuration service provided by Google Ireland Limited.
Personal Data processed: various types of Data as specified in the privacy policy of the service.

Image recognition and content detection

This type of service allows the Application to analyze photos taken or uploaded by the User in order to automatically detect content such as monetary amounts on banknotes, totals on receipts, merchant names, transaction dates and similar information, so that they can be turned into financial entries with minimal manual input.

On-device image recognition
Where supported by the User's device, image recognition is performed locally and the photo is not uploaded to any external server for analysis.
Personal Data processed: photos taken or selected by the User; data extracted from those photos.
Place of processing: User's device.
Cloud-based image recognition (third-party AI/OCR providers)
Where on-device processing is not available or not sufficient, photos may be sent to a trusted third-party provider over an encrypted connection so that monetary amounts, dates, merchants and other relevant information can be extracted. The Owner does not allow these providers to use the photos to train public models, and any internal model improvement is carried out only on anonymized, aggregated data unless the User explicitly opts in.

Handling payments

Unless otherwise specified, this Application processes any payments by credit card, bank transfer or other means via external payment service providers. In general and unless otherwise stated, Users are requested to provide their payment details and personal information directly to such payment service providers. This Application isn't involved in the collection and processing of such information: instead, it will only receive a notification by the relevant payment service provider as to whether payment has been successfully completed.

RevenueCat is a subscription-management service provided by RevenueCat, Inc. The service allows the Owner to monitor and analyze the User's purchase history and can be used to keep track of subscription status across platforms.

Hosting and backend infrastructure

This type of service has the purpose of hosting Data and files that enable this Application to run and be distributed as well as to provide a ready-made infrastructure to run specific features or parts of this Application. Some services among those listed below may work through geographically distributed servers, making it difficult to determine the actual location where the Personal Data are stored.

This type of service allows this Application to monitor the use and behavior of its components so its performance, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting can be improved.

Crashlytics (Google Ireland Limited)
Crashlytics is a monitoring service provided by Google Ireland Limited.
Personal Data processed: Crash information; device information; Universally unique identifier (UUID).

Managing contacts and sending messages

This type of service makes it possible to manage a database of email contacts, push tokens or any other contact information to communicate with the User. These services may also collect data concerning the date and time when the message was viewed by the User, as well as when the User interacted with it, such as by clicking on links included in the message.

Firebase Cloud Messaging allows the Owner to send messages and notifications to Users across platforms such as Android, iOS, and the web.

Platform services and hosting

Apple App Store (Apple Inc.)
This Application is distributed on Apple's App Store, a platform for the distribution of mobile apps, provided by Apple Inc. By virtue of being distributed via this app store, Apple collects basic analytics and provides reporting features that enable the Owner to view usage analytics data and measure the performance of this Application. Much of this information is processed on an opt-in basis. Users may opt out of this analytics feature directly through their device settings.

Social features

Split bill and shared memories (this Application)
When a User creates a split bill or shares a memory, the participants the User adds will be able to view the relevant data — including amounts, item descriptions, and any photo attached to the entry. If a participant is not a MoneyMemories user, the User may share a link or message with them; the recipient will only see the contents of that specific bill or memory and not the rest of the User's data.
The Owner does not move money between Users — settlement of split bills happens outside the Application.
Personal Data processed: participant names; contact identifiers (email, phone number, in-app friend ID); amounts; descriptions; photos.
Firebase Dynamic Links (Google Ireland Limited)
Firebase Dynamic Links is a social feature provided by Google Ireland Limited used to generate shareable links (for example, to share a split bill or invite a friend).
Personal Data processed: various types of Data as specified in the privacy policy of the service.

Push notifications

This Application may send push notifications to the User to achieve the purposes outlined in this privacy policy — for example, reminders about subscriptions, loan due dates, savings goals, split-bill settlements, and recap-style memories.

Users may in most cases opt out of receiving push notifications by visiting their device settings, such as the notification settings for mobile phones, and then changing those settings for this Application or all of the apps on the particular device.

Users must be aware that disabling push notifications may negatively affect the utility of this Application.

Selling goods and services online

The Personal Data collected are used to provide the User with services or to sell goods, including in-app purchases and premium subscriptions. The Personal Data collected to complete the payment may include the credit card, the bank account used for the transfer, or any other means of payment envisaged. When a User deletes an entry inside the Application, it is removed from active systems within 30 days, with backups purged within 90 days. When a User deletes their account, personal data is deleted or anonymized within 30 days, except where the Owner is legally required to retain it.

Users may exercise certain rights regarding their Data processed by the Owner. In particular, Users have the right to do the following, to the extent permitted by law:
